Does an official translator need to be present?

If I am not fluent in Romanian, I will need to be accompanied in front of the notary by an authorised translator acting as an interpreter. Most notaries collaborate with one or more translators, so I can book in advance both the notary as well as the interpreter. If I want to choose my own translator, the list of authorised translators is available on the website of the Ministry of Justice

I will obtain 2 legalised documents

As a foreign citizen, I will need to go to a notary, where I will make two statements:

• That I fulfil the conditions to be an administrator of a Romanian company and that I do not have debts to the Romanian State
• Signature specimen

The lawyer/accounting firm can recommend a notary in their vicinity. If I want to choose my own notary, the full list of notaries is available on the website of the National Union of Public Notaries in Romania (=ro. Uniunea Națională a Notarilor Publici din România)

And a 3rd one: Power of Attorney for the accounting firm

If I have already identified an accounting firm to which I will outsource accounting, then I can use the visit to the notary to obtain this third document as well:

• Power of attorney for the accounting firm to represent me in front of the public authorities and to submit my tax statements on the tax agency’s platform SPV (=ro. “Spațiul Privat Virtual” = en. “Virtual Private Space”).
