I can either hire a full-time accountant, or externalise (outsource) the accounting services to a specialised accounting firm

If I find an accountant available to work for me as an employee, that is great, especially if (s)he comes recommended. Having an accountant in house will be a valuable help in organising and running my Business in Romania, easily available. However, it will result in higher initial costs, so perhaps an alternative is to look into externalising the accounting service to a specialised firm.

My benefits of making use of the services of an accounting firm include:

• typically, I would pay less for an accounting firm than what I pay for hiring a full-time accountant
• a team of accountants can deal with more business models than a single accountant. Therefore, the accounting firm gains a wider expertise and can be better suited to assist me with my business needs
• when I have a service contract with an accounting firm which is a member of the professional bodies*, the tax inspectors’ confidence in my business increases, therefore I am less likely to be the subject of a tax inspection for the first couple of years
• Ideally, I would want my accounting firm to be ISO 9001 & ISO 27001 certified

Irrespective if I choose an accountant or an accounting firm

• Whether I use the services of an accountant or an accounting firm to prepare my tax statements and tax payment orders, I need to ask them in advance what is the tax calendar applicable to my firm and how can they share with me each update to this calendar, so that I am never taken by surprise by the frequent changes in the tax legislation
• It would also be great if the accountant or the accounting accounting firm has a notifications system in place, able to trigger automatic notifications to my mobile when deadlines approach. I need a tool to help me keep track of the expiry of various items and, whoever will offer me such an instrument, this will be highly beneficial
